Leah Pincus, Labor Doula

“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.”
—Dr. John H. Kennell

I’m Leah, a labor doula and avid supporter of breastfeeding.  Like many women, as I had my own children, I became passionate about childbirth and breastfeeding.  I read everything I could find!  I eventually experienced hospital birth, water birth and home birth.  It was because of my range of personal experience (and the fact that I loved babies and breastfeeding) that friends and family kept requesting that I attend their births.  As my youngest child began to wean, I was finally able to pursue my favorite activity full-time.

I believe that birth is best when women have the support to labor as needed and that feeling supported in labor can have a significant positive impact on the start of their new family.  I’ve learned through research, experience and my training that support is one of the most important parts of feeling satisfied with the outcome of your child’s entrance into the world.  Support is what helps us feel like our choices are just that – ours.  I’m so honored when someone allows me to help support their labor; that I get to be part of a sacred time in their lives and that they trust me with being part of the inner circle that holds them through it.

I also think there is a lot of misinformation around childbirth in our culture – new-wives’ tales, if you will.  I am passionate about learning where we’ve lost the expert advice of thousands of years of human experience.  I want to help families have a break from conflicting opinions by showing them what scientific literature says about childbirth and breastfeeding and by empowering them to choose for themselves options they can feel good about in the end.

I’m a wife to a tall, dark and handsome guy and mom of three wonderful children (I know; I’m biased).  I love reading, cooking, running and yoga.  I’d also love to have the chance to be your doula.

Leah’s fee is $825 / Sibling doula service is $625
