Breastfeeding Couple Class, taught by Renee Wymer is to prepare you prior to the birth of your baby in understanding the whys, hows and whens to breastfeeding to insure success.
This is a unique class with new approaches to learning positions and latching techniques. Studies indicate that taking a prenatal breastfeeding class was the best way to avoid problems with breastfeeding. We feel the support of the partner by learning techniques to support the new mom is essential.
We cover the “whys”, “how tos”, “when” and “whats” that go with breastfeeding. A must class for anyone considering breastfeeding whether for a few weeks or longer… working or staying home… come pregnant but open to new parents as well.
This is not a lecture only class- we offer video- hands-on practice with dolls for positioning and lots of interactive discussion. You will receive a link of handouts to take home to help. If you have any problems after the baby comes, we offer three months of FREE on-call support for any couples who attended this class.
Evidence-based studies showed the number one thing that helped diminish nipple trauma in new moms was prenatal education on the proper latch! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
This class is taught in Roswell, GA. View the class schedule on our CALENDAR

Although we believe that the group interaction is something that helps not only solidify the information, but also makes our classes more fun, we offer private classes in our childbirth class locations or your home for those whose schedules don’t allow a group interactive class setting. We offer these classes in our childbirth class spaces and ocassionaly in your home. We prefer our class spaces so we have full access to our teaching materials but also so you will not be distracted in your home environment. There are four modules that last about 2.5- 3 hours each that can be selected ala carte to tailor them to your specific needs. For a full class you would need to take all four modules. Each module can be individually priced or the set of four modules are available at a discount.
We teach our private modules to meet your needs, so you help to taylor them for what you are seeking. We try to make each class have some component of Body- Voice and Action. Birth is a mind, body connection- so you have to expand the way you think about birth. A good childbirth class is not just one that teaches you pain coping but does not address concerns and fears that can interfere with you body unfolding in labor. A good childbirth class does not just teach you positions to try in labor and not address interventions that may happen and how to ask good questions to find answers for your birth options. We teach four segments that make this a fully comprehensive class. Look at the couples class for Wisdom for Birth and you can get an idea of some of what is taught in these private classes.
This is a comprehensive childbirth education series for couples. This is an 8-hour class, taught on a Sunday. During the course of a FUNdamentals series, you will
– Join an intimate group of parents-to-be in a cozy, informal setting
– Prepare your mind for birth
– Discover your options for childbirth and how to get what you want
– Explore the physiology and stages of labor
– Learn how to make decisions when faced with the unplanned
– Arm yourself with several pain coping techniques
– Try out some effective positions for labor and birth
– Pepare for baby’s first weeks
– and much more!
FUNdamentals is just that–FUN! The class is open-discussion format, and the curriculum is guided by the goals, questions, and respectful discussion of the participants. Couples should feel free to share as much or as little as they’d like. The room is safe and free from judgement, and we also respect those who wish to remain a bit more private.
Renee Wymer is a CAPPA- trained childbirth educator with several years of experience as a labor and postpartum doula.
Classes are taught in Roswell, GA. Cost of the workshop is $155. See the class schedule here: CALENDAR

In this information age every thing is becoming easier to do things virtually, I wanted to make Massaman Curry Chicken. I searched for recipes on line and even found a you tube of someone cooking and giving instructions. This was great! It would have been better if I could have gone to a quick cooking class- but even better if I could have gone to a Thai cooking class that was six weeks long, I could have learned how to make many more dishes that I am sure to love!
This week I received several invitations to go online to a few video conferences to hear about subjects related to my work. I did not choose to be a part of the virtual conference on breastfeeding, but instead I am attending a conference next year in NC on breastfeeding. These things are great if you can not get out of your home to attend a conference or live so far away from any where they may be offered. But are they a replacement for a real hands on experience? If you live a long way away from a city offering conferences and can not attend, it certainly may be the next best thing option. (more…)
I received a call yesterday from a good friend and someone who I adore. It was my acupuncturist Dr. Gurusahay Khalsa. He was sadly telling me that due to restrictions in his insurance he can no longer see a patient for the first time for acupuncture. Often times we send our clients there when they have a breech baby and need help turning this baby. He mentioned it would be better if they had already been seeing him along their journey. I totally agreed! And it got me thinking about prenatal care and preparation.
When someone becomes pregnant they seek out the care provider they will see for prenatal care. But really they needed to be seeing a good midwife or physician prior to becoming pregnant to make sure their health was good – taking folic acid prior to becoming pregnant- watching their diet, being clear of medications that could harm a developing fetus, etc. This is the pre- prenatal care that insures a safe and healthy pregnancy. But we all believe a good provider found early in pregnancy is essential. But what else is essential?
So, I thought I would share what I would consider a wonderful path to prenatal care and preparation. (more…)
We recently had a student say that although her friends told her it was a waste of time and money to take a childbirth class, she felt she learned things that would be helpful for her preparation for labor and birth that she did not even know she needed to know before taking the classes. Her friends told her the classes they took- more than likely the wham bamm classes that hospitals feel compelled to teach since that is what folks say they want- were full of what the hospital required of them and the medication options they had. I laugh when I hear this and say, “Oh you took the how to be a good patient classes!”
I do think our classes are different. It is more about the mind body connection- the thing that most classes don’t even cover. We cover the other basics- positions for labor and birth that enhance labor, the how to time contractions, the how to know when to go to the hospital, the how to ask questions in order to get answers… but we also cover things like: what fears do you have that may hold you up in labor? what roles do you expect your nurse, midwife, partner, doula to have? what is going to change the most as you become parents? what would need to happen to cause you to change your mind in labor about pain medication? what tools do you need in order to avoid interventions in labor? This is more than the yoga 3 hour session to learn how to “breathe and move” in labor- although we cover that. We do not show films on how an epidural is placed, if you need it you don’t care how it is placed- only that it gets placed. We do show films on what real birth looks and sounds like. It is not the sanitized view you get from the half hour baby TV shows. We get you to expand your thinking about birth- about your ability- about your body… and we have fun doing it! (more…)
