I am a birth guide- someone to help you along your mysterious journey- guiding you when you need it, helping you back on the path if you step off, watching in wonder when you don’t, and always supporting you.
Services: I am a childbirth, parenting and lactation educator, labor and postpartum doula. I am the founder and previous owner of Labor of Love Doula and Childbirth Services, Inc. and the owner of Athens Nurturing Nanas– postpartum services . I began assisting in births in 1992. I’ve worked with water births, natural births, twins, high-risk births & VBACs. I have doula’d for both home and hospital births. I’ve enjoyed working with both single moms & couples ranging in age from 17 to 46. I have been blessed with having doula’d for 700 moms and babies by the summer of 2019. I offer a rewards discount program for my labor doula services. Preparation Equals a Reduction in Fee= Rewards Package. If you are in Athens or some areas of Gwinnett, read about Teresa’s offerings there for postpartum.
Areas Served: I serve women in the metro area of Atlanta and Athens. I prefer to only labor doula at home births, Piedmont Athens Regional, St. Mary’s, Atlanta Birth Center, Atlanta Medical, and North Fulton Regional Hospitals, but will consider other locations on a case by case basis. I only provide postpartum doula services in the Athens metro and some areas of Gwinnett. I teach at the Atlanta Birth Center and in Athens.
Training: Previously certified with Doulas of North America (DONA) for 12 years and with the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) as a labor doula and lactation educator. I am a retired La Leche League leader and previous certified postpartum doula trainer and childbirth educator for several years with CAPPA. I have personal experience with the Lamaze and Bradley methods, was trained and taught Birthing from Within for over a decade from and have taken courses for doulas supporting Hypno-birthing and Hypno-baby students. But the childbirth education I choose to teach and that resonates with me is from Karen Brody with her BOLD Method for Childbirth. I am a BOLD Method Certified Birth Facilitator as well as BOLD trainer for educators and birth professionals and also a certified Happiest Baby on the Block instructor and trained Dancing for Birth instructor. I am also trained to integrate acupressure into pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care.
Personal: Married to Dallas since 1977, I am the mom to three naturally born, grown children, and grandmother to five naturally born grandchildren. My daughters experienced home births and hospital births, and I was present at all of them and able to catch my last granddaughter! I love being a nana, they are the reason we have recently moved to Athens. I live in west Athens, but close to a jump onto I-85 or 316 into Atlanta. The drive is really a straight shot into Atlanta with little traffic. Ironically it has only added less than 20 minutes from when I lived in Gwinnett to be in downtown Atlanta!
As a breast cancer survivor since November 2007, I have learned so much about being flexible as life throws you curve balls! I currently have chosen to shave my head due to an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. I understand how you can only control certain things in your life, just as in labor and birth. I bring this experience to my philosophy as a doula and educator.
