My journey to becoming a doula began about 16 years ago, before I had children of my own. I met a woman who was a doula and childbirth educator and she shared with me her passion for birth. My eyes were suddenly open to a world where birth didn’t have to be scary and women could be in charge of their experiences. A few years later, when I welcomed my first-born, I saw the benefit of having education and choices in birth. Birth wasn’t at all what is portrayed in movies or the horror stories everyone seems so quick to share. Birth is a beautiful, empowering, life changing experience.
In 2012, I had the privilege of supporting a dear friend while she gave birth to her daughter. I knew then that being a doula was what I wanted to pursue! I began reading any recommend books and research papers I came across. I asked the women around me about their birthing experiences; what they loved, what they would change, how culture played a role in their birth.
I love pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. There is never a time where a woman is more feminine or powerful, than growing and bringing a new life into the world.
My husband and I lived in South Africa for nearly 9 years, serving as missionaries. I love working with different cultures, reading, home schooling, and the beach. We are parents to 6 boys, all born at home and all but one “caught” by daddy.
I would be honored to support you and your family as you welcome your sweet baby.
